The Challenge

‍Pathways Charter School’s original logo leaned heavily into the fiery mythology of the phoenix, using bold reds and yellows to symbolize rebirth. However, those colors began to evoke unintended emotions, particularly anxiety and distress, for parts of their community, as they closely resembled the wildfires that have devastated California in recent years. The challenge was to retain the core symbolism of the phoenix while shifting to a palette and visual style that felt safe, calm, and inclusive.

The Result

Pathways Charter School unveiled a refreshed brand identity that reflected who they’ve always been — a place of new beginnings — but now with a look that brings comfort and confidence to those they serve. The new visuals were met with positive reception from students, staff, and families, reinforcing their commitment to growth, transformation, and community care.
